What Happens in a KURAI Free Trial Class?

It's a real class, not a demo

The first thing most parents want to know is whether a "free trial" at KURAI means a scripted demo, a sales presentation, or a watered-down taster session.

It's none of those things.

When your child attends a KURAI free trial, they join an actual class that's already running. They sit alongside students who are enrolled in the programme, work on the same project, and receive the same instruction. The session is identical to what paying students experience — because the whole point is for you and your child to see what KURAI is actually like, not a polished version of it.

There's no separate "trial track." No simplified activities designed to impress rather than teach. Your child does real work, and you see real results.

Before the class: what to know

Choosing a session

When you book a trial, we'll ask for your child's age, which programme interests you, and you'll pick a specific class session from our weekly schedule. If you're not sure which programme, that's completely fine — tell us your child's age and what they enjoy, and we'll suggest the best fit. You can also read our guide on how to choose the right programme for more detail.

The three options are:

  • AI Explorers — ages 8 to 11, focused on AI concepts, creative projects, and structured learning through technology
  • AI Creators — ages 11 to 14, focused on deeper AI applications, data projects, and advanced creative work
  • Junior Robotics — ages 5 to 9, focused on physical robot building and visual programming
  • Senior Robotics — ages 10 to 14, focused on advanced builds and deeper programming challenges

What your child needs to bring

Nothing. All materials, equipment, and tools are provided. Your child just needs to show up. Comfortable clothing is fine — especially for Robotics classes, where they'll be building with their hands.

Where it happens

All classes run at our centre in Horizon Hills, Johor Bahru. When you arrive, we'll welcome you, introduce your child to the instructor, and get them settled before the session begins.

During the class: what your child will do

The first 10 minutes

The instructor introduces your child to the group and gives them a quick overview of what they'll be working on. In most sessions, this means joining a project that's already in progress. Don't worry — the instructor will make sure your child has enough context to participate. Children are remarkably good at jumping in when the work is engaging.

The core session

This is the bulk of the class — around 70 minutes of guided, project-based work.

In a AI Explorers or AI Creators trial, your child might train an image classifier, generate AI artwork through carefully written prompts, or map out a simple decision tree. The work involves a laptop, but it's always structured around a clear challenge with group discussion and individual experimentation.

In a Robotics trial, your child will build and program a physical robot. They'll connect components, set up basic behaviours through visual coding tools, and test their robot on a challenge — like following a line or navigating around an obstacle.

The instructor circulates constantly. With a maximum of 8 students in the room, your child will receive direct attention multiple times throughout the session. If they're stuck, the instructor will notice. If they have a breakthrough, it'll be acknowledged.

The final 10 minutes

Children share what they built or discovered. This is informal — not a high-pressure presentation. It's a chance for your child to explain their thinking and see what other students created. Many parents tell us this is the moment they knew KURAI was different — watching their child proudly describe something they made during the session.

What you can do during the class

You're welcome to observe from the seating area near the classroom. Most parents find it genuinely interesting to watch — partly because they're seeing their child engage with something new, and partly because the class dynamic in a small group is visibly different from what they've experienced at other centres.

You're also welcome to step out, grab a coffee, and come back before the session ends. There's no requirement to stay, and there's no sales presentation during or after the class.

After the class: no pressure

When the session ends, the instructor will give you a brief update on how your child did — what they worked on, how they responded, and whether the programme seems like a good fit.

That's it.

We won't ask you to sign up on the spot. We won't offer a "today only" discount. We won't follow up with aggressive calls or emails.

If your child enjoyed it and you'd like to enrol, we'll walk you through the options. If you'd like to think about it, take as long as you need. If it wasn't the right fit, we'll tell you honestly — because enrolling a child in the wrong programme doesn't help anyone.

The trial exists so you can make an informed decision. It's not a sales funnel. It's a genuine invitation to see what we do.

What parents usually notice

After hundreds of trial sessions, there are a few things parents consistently mention:

The class size. Parents who've visited other enrichment centres are often struck by how few children are in the room — and how much attention each one gets.

Their child's focus. Many parents are surprised by how long their child stays engaged. Children who normally struggle to concentrate for 20 minutes will often work for the full 90-minute session without prompting, because the project holds their interest.

The instructor's awareness. Parents notice that the instructor knows what each child is doing, not just what the group is doing. That level of individual attention is rare in enrichment settings, and it's visible from the first session.

The absence of pressure. Parents expect some form of hard sell at the end. When it doesn't come, it changes how they feel about the entire experience.

One session is enough to know

We don't offer free trials as a gimmick. We offer them because we're confident in what happens inside our classroom. One session is usually enough for both you and your child to know whether KURAI is the right fit.

Your child will leave having built or created something real. You'll leave having seen exactly what a KURAI class looks like — not a brochure version, but the actual thing.
